I didn't know that, so I went looking for it.
http://www.pokerplayersalliance.org/pdf/PPA05Public990.pdf
Like most 990s, it doesn't provide much detail. It's just expenditures
in general categories, with no way of judging whether those expenditures
were on anything sensible or effective.
It's not hugely impressive. In fact, the most immediately apparent thing
about it was that it was only filed December 12, 2006, despite being a
tax filing for the year 2005.
Coincidentally, Mason Malmuth posted his criticism of the PPA three days
previously, on December 9, 2006. http://tinyurl.com/2scss6
So what this 990 shows is that the PPA is the kind of organization that doesn't
bother to file its tax return until someone starts nosing around asking
questions.
Whoops!
For a confidence-building exercise, I suggest PPA try filing its taxes this
year at least in the neighborhood of April 15. December 12 is a little more
than fashionably late.
